The Modern Drive on both the 6 & 12 volt starters is Larger and Stronger than the original 8BA 48-53 Motors. It will be necessary to remove the starter plate and grind a small amount of the cast iron or steel intermediate housing. So the drive will fit between the ring gear and the intermediate housing.or simply loosen the oil pan, mount the starter on the pan and reattach the pan .
